Sunshine lightens a dark drama on Showtime and Sky

In the shadows of a glitzy bar in New Orleans, we discern the outline of a menacing figure. It is crime boss Tommy Baxter, a cold-faced man with the smile of a hungry shark. He is waiting for someone.

In the background, we hear the sound of a big band with a towering brass section fronted by a male vocalist. The happy feel of the music provides a dramatic counterpoint to the drama unfolding before us.

Bryan Cranston

Prime-time US TV meets Meegan and Tobin. The song is Sunshine of Your Love, written by Jeff and David and recorded by the Rob Parton Big Band in Chicago in 2012 and featuring a silky vocal from Jeff. The song features in the critically acclaimed TV drama Your Honor, with Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, right,) and Michael Stuhlbarg (above, Boardwalk Empire).

Your Honor premiered in the States on Showtime in December and is available to download on the channel. It can also be seen on Sky Atlantic in the UK. A dark and gripping drama that hinges on the repercussions of a nightmarish car crash, it has been adapted from an Israeli television series named Kvodo.

Sunshine of Your Love features on an album of great songs with a brilliant big band backing called Smooth Crooners. The tracks are available to licence for commercial use from Audio Network. (https://www.audionetwork.com/browse/m/album/smooth-crooners_1824).
